Candidate Qualifications

At Total Nannies, we ensure that every candidate on our books meets the highest standards of childcare excellence. All candidates:

 

  • Are 18 years of age or older.
  • Possess prior childcare experience, such as babysitting, caring for younger siblings, or working in a nursery/kindergarten or as au pairs, mother's helps or nannies. They genuinely enjoy working with children. 
  • Speak English to a proficient level. Many of our candidates are native speakers from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, the United States, Canada, South Africa, and New Zealand. We also recruit fluent English speakers from countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Germany, The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Brazil, and the Netherlands. Families are welcome to request a candidate with specific language backgrounds, and we will do our best to accomodate these preferences. 
  • Have earned at minimum a secondary school diploma or equivalent. Many candidates have completed university-level coursework, hold a university degree, or possess a childcare qualification or diploma. In some cases, candidates are fully qualified teachers
  • Are highly motivated to provide exceptional childcare while embracing a new culture and country. 
  • Are required to submit a medical certificate and police clearance prior to their arrival. 
  • Have successfully passed our rigorous screening process, which includes personal interviews, verification of identification, review of character and employment references (minimum two non-family references), and a criminal background check where available. 
  • Are responsible for covering their own travel expenses to the host country.
