Experience with children: | This was my second summer working as a camp counselor in America. I was able to gain a lot of experience with working with children from the age of 6-16 years of age. At camp you live with the children working with them 24/7, this role forced me into sometime difficult situations which I had to handle and resolve. My experience changed me for the better as a person, it made me learn how to think quickly on my feet and how to be with children, living with them in a cabin and teaching them valuable life lessons. The children I had in my cabin were aged between 10-12 years, a very sassy age group which are just coming into their own and it was lovely to watch them grow. My experience at camp motivated me into seeking employment in a pre-school setting working with children aged between 2-4 years. I particular enjoy working with this age group as I was able to use my creativity to come up with initiative and imaginative play for the children, stimulating their development and learning about the early years foundation stages. We also ran an after school club helping the children form the adjoining school relax and get creative in a caring and friendly environment, the ages of the school children ranged from 5-12 years of age. I worked at pre-school from September 2013 till June 2014 leaving my position for a second summer at camp. |

Interests & hobbies: | I am a very creative person, at camp I was the sewing counselor and I had full creative control over what I did with the children, it was fun to watch a child who had never picked up a needle and thread to go home with something they had made themselves and were so proud of. I also helped to run arts and craft and pottery coming up with imaginative project for the children and often getting messy and letting the creativity flow. |
